It's Brooklyn's turn to host the NBA All Star Game in 2015. The NBA is choosing between Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center as the arena for the game. Isn't it time we had an All Star event in Brooklyn?
If all the great things about Brooklyn weren't enough, Madison Square Garden owner James Dolan has a track record of violating his workers' rights. His company (Cablevision-Optimum) has done everything from illegally locking out and firing workers, to refusing to negotiate a fair contract with his workers. The NBA shouldn't reward his union busting behavior.
It's time for Brooklyn to host a world-class event. With the new Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn, the NBA has a chance to stand up to companies that attack their workers. The NBA should host the 2015 All-Star Game at the new Barclays Center, not Dolan-owned Madison Square Garden.
